OK: So we may not be one of the most famous Bull Terrier kennels in the UK;
OK: So we may not be one of the most active Bull Terrier show kennels in the UK;
AND: We most certainly cannot be described as a prolific puppy producer:
BUT WE HAVE: Still managed to become an influential Bull Terrier kennel in the UK over a long period of time.
The following successful Bull Terriers (over many different breeding lines) have our Tawnbarr dogs and/or bitches featuring in their pedigrees. AND TO BRING THINGS UP TO DATE:
Bull Terrier Club Trophy Show 2020 - Amazing feats of the inbred bitch and the disregarded undershot dog:
In the Bitch Jug, there were 12 invitees. The inbred bitch was behind 7 of the exhibits and the disregarded undershot dog was behind 6 of the exhibits. In fact, only one of the bitch Jug exhibits had neither the inbred bitch nor the disregarded undershot dog behind it.
In the Dog Jug, there were 10 invitees. Only one of the dog Jug exhibits had neither the inbred bitch nor the disregarded undershot dog behind it.
In the Regent Trophy, there were 18 invitees. The inbred bitch was behind 7 of the exhibits and the disregarded undershot dog was behind 11 of the exhibits. In fact, only 3 of the Regent Trophy exhibits had neither the inbred bitch nor the disregarded undershot dog behind them.
The inbred bitch doubled up on the 5 straight generations of half brother/half sister matings undertaken by Arthur and Joyce Miller of Brobar fame, which brought them many champions and trophy winners. So I mated my bitch ” Penny” - Lovely Rita of Brobar (litter sister to Ch Bodyline of Brobar) to her half brother “Ace” Turkshead Bubbles Gift of Brobar. Here is where it gets interesting because in addition to both being sired by the great stud dog Lamonby’s Marton’s Marauder, the mothers of Penny and Ace were also litter sisters each, of course, being the result of 5 straight generations of half brother half sister matings.
This bitch was called Tawnbarr Hot Pursuit and gave good results to both myself and later my great friend Andy Stubbs who added his affix, Tyebar, to her name and, of course , to those who bought the resulting puppies. Would I do the same again – hell, yes. Would I have the opportunity to these days – probably not.
The disregarded undershot dog, was called “Tommy” Bulivar Starbuck Tawnbarr (Ch Aricon One in the Eye ex Bulivar Meadow Brown) and whilst winning 2 reserve CC’s, he was only used by 4 breeders’ : myself (I put him onto Hot Pursuit) Andy Stubbs, Geoff Backhouse and Peter Moyle. Starbuck went to the States and became an American Ch in a very short time under the guidance of Bob Thomas.
From these slim pickings, both Starbuck and Hot Pursuit appear behind the majority of top winning dogs.
